Sacred Valley Tour and Maras Moray
The Sacred Valley extends like an open-air museum, offering a unique experience that combines ancient architecture, living traditions and spectacular views. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous archaeological sites of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, where you can marvel at agricultural terraces, temples and constructions that defy the passage of time.
In Maras, you will discover the impressive salt mines, an ingenious extraction system that has been used since pre-Inca times. Its hundreds of white pools contrast with the Andean landscape, creating a visual spectacle not to be missed. Then, in Moray, you will be amazed by the concentric circles that once functioned as an Inca agricultural laboratory, demonstrating the advanced knowledge this civilization had about crop adaptation.
Complete Sacred Valley full day tour itinerary
6:25am to 6:50am we start our day with the pick up from your accommodation in Cusco, a member of our staff will pick you up to take you directly to your transportation that will take you to this great adventure.
Our first place to visit will be the archaeological center of Chinchero, a place of great cultural and archaeological importance. This site not only offers spectacular panoramic views of the valley, but it is also a testimony of Andean engineering and cosmovision. We will then head to the textile factory in the village of Chinchero, where we will be warmly welcomed by the ladies of the village who will provide us with this ancestral knowledge of dyeing alpaca wool using organic material. This center not only offers a fascinating insight into ancestral weaving techniques, but also supports local communities in the preservation of their traditions.
For our next destination we will go to the district of Maras, where the famous salt wells are located, forming a wonderful scenic spectacle between the mountains, rivers and the contrasting colors of the salt mines. This fascinating place was very important in pre-Inca times. The wells are extracted by the villagers themselves, and thus, to market it in different presentations, such as salt for cooking, bath salts, etc.
Our next point to visit will be the archaeological site of Moray, well known for its terraces in the form of an amphitheater, was designed to experiment with crops in different microclimates, being faithful proof of the advanced Inca engineering.
To regain strength and continue with our tour we will go to the district of Urubamba, to be able to go to the restaurant in the area and taste a delicious buffet lunch, with options of typical national dishes.
Continuing with our trip we will head towards the town of Ollantaytambo, known for its rich history, as well as, for still preserving its customs and traditions. Our destination will be the archaeological center of Ollantaytambo, during our journey we will feel that we go back in time because Ollantaytambo is one of the few places that maintains its Inca urban design. The narrow streets and stone buildings are testimony of Inca engineering.
Arriving at the archaeological center of Ollantaytambo we will explore the impressive terraces, temples, our guide will give you time to explore the place and get the best shots of photography.
To culminate this wonderful day and if we have enough time we will visit the Archaeological Park of Pisaq comes from the Quechua word “Pisaqaq” which means partridge or bird. where we can observe its impressive architectural structures such as temples, houses and agricultural terraces. This wonderful place was multifunctional as a religious center, administrative center, military fortress, and agricultural center.
We will return to Cusco around 19:00hrs to 19:30hrs.
